Rail Mounted Gantry (RMG) Operator

Position Summary

The RMG Operator provides a world-class container and cargo handling service to meet client demands. This position maximizes rail loading efficiency and effectiveness while strictly maintaining commercial, operational, and safety factors according to terminal guidelines. Responsibilities include operating the RMG crane, driving mobile plant equipment, and completing grounding pinning tasks.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

• Execute precise import and export container rail operations, managing the loading and discharging sequences of rail wagons.
• Interpret and execute operation load and discharge plans processed via automated touch-screen tablets and systems.
• Communicate cleanly and consistently with external rail providers and ground crews overseeing rail line safety.
• Conduct rigorous pre- and post-operational safety checks on the RMG crane, immediately reporting defects to terminal control.
• Take personal responsibility for safety and discipline within the active work grid, reporting all incidents and ‘near misses’ immediately.
• Demonstrate the ability to safely multitask, executing concurrent operational commands without delaying rail schedules.

Qualifications & Requirements

• KCSE C- (Minus) or its recognized equivalent.
• Valid NTSA driving license of class B, C, E with a Forklift endorsement.
• Valid Gantry Crane Operator Certificate paired with at least one of the following:
  • Terminal Tractor Driving Certificate
  • Top Loader Driving Certificate
  • Winch Crane Operations Certificate

Minimum of 3 years of active experience. Direct experience within Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) installations or major rail-linked terminal networks is a distinct advantage.

• Confirmed ability to operate computerized crane control systems; basic level understanding of Microsoft Office applications.
• Full physical and medical fitness authorization.
